  The biggest challenge is the firemen’s lives are very dangerous when there are fire happening. Its pro is they have a lot of perfect protections to help them away from the dangers. And the fire fighting trucks are very perfect.the trucks have a lot of equipments setting on the trucks to help the firemen to save other people. The con is when oxygen bottle cannot last for a long time if there is a big fire. The firemen can not have enough time to saving people. No, it is not. The living environment is pretty good and they can have times to take a break during the work time. However, the danger does not reduce. The exciting and glamorous is only for other people but not for firemen. Every time there are having a fire, firemen could be lose their lives. Therefore, I think being a fireman is a dangerous job.

Bonanzaville Village

1. What themes are displayed in Bonanzaville Village?

In the exhibition, the theme is about the World War Two and how the Nazi influence America and what Nazi has done. And the other part is about the life of native America Indian. In the Bonanzaville Village, there are many old houses showing different stores like drug store, phone, police and so on.
2. Describe the most interesting artifacts of the exhibition and reflect on their significance.

The most interesting artifacts of the exhibition is the house of native America Indian. From the model, we know that even though the houses are not so modern as the house today, in deed they can built a house which is very useful according to their living environment. The house can help them to protect themselves from the weather, big animals and raise animals.

Public Library

   Today we have visited the public library in Moorhead. There were a lot of students in the library to listen the presentation and did some activities in their summer holiday. I think these activities are very important for the children. They can learn something from the activities beside the knowledge in the textbook. Beside, the parents can go working without worrying about their children’s safety. However, in China, in the summer holiday, there are many kids have to stay in home watching TV or playing computer games. It wastes their time. So I hope in the future, many Chinese kids can also take part in some activities like these.

Thanks Giving

What are the American people giving thanks for ? Write 100 words.

In ancient time, there was a traveler from the England. When he reached the north America, he lost all hie food and his board. Native Americans saved him and gave him enough food to survive though the winter. Beside, the native American have taught the traveler how to plan food. Therefore, the traveler wanted to thank the native American for giving his food so that he picked a day to celebrate. Now the day is called Thanks Giving. In the end, American use it to express their thanks to others.

Organic products are produced and processed without the use of prohibited synthetic and persistent pesticides, fertilizers, growth hormones, genetic engineering, artificial ingredients, and preservatives.

Researchers in Texas found that organic grapefruits had higher levels of ascorbic acids, certain health-promoting flavonoids, and sugars, and were lower in nitrates.
3. How do organic practices improve the soil quality?
The organically farmed soils were found to have more total carbon and nitrogen, greater microbial biomass and activity, and higher concentration of micronutrients.
4. Why is organic production expensive?

Organic food has higher requirement to the environment so that it require the farmers provide more higher technology.

Comstock House

   The Comstock House which is Victorian style was completed in 1883. This house is designed in the popular style of the time mixing with some British element. The house is started with a profusion of spindle work porches, chimneys and poly-chromed siding and trim and has 11 rooms. The owner of the house has spent more than 50 years on the house. Beside, the menders of family has made a huge difference for the Moordead. Solomon G. Comstock has development to the local politics and law. In addition, his wife and his children have made developed to themselves as well. So the Comstock House is an important landmark of local history.

Nursing home

   Even though the nursing home we visited today is pretty good, i will still try not to let my parents live there when they are old. To be honest, the facilities in the nursing home is very convenient for the old people. However, I do not think it is the important thing for the old people. The old people actually really need their family to accompany. I have met a old woman. She said she has 9 daughters and 6 sons and she forgot herself. I felt a little bit sad and sorry about her, because she hae so many children but none of them can take care about her and have to put her to live in the nursing home and her home is near to the nursing house. Most of them are happy to see us to accompany them. If their kids can come to see them, they will be happier. Out parents have spent most of their time on taking care of us and teaching us how to make a living in the society. In the end, as their kids, we should spend time to accompany them as much as possible.

Habitat build houses for poor family or homeless people to live in a more healthy environment.

2. Does the organization help all applicants equally? What are the eligibility criteria?

No, the organization does not help all applicants equally. Because the low incomes families have to pay the material. So they need to be able to afford the money and then they the permission to own the house

In China, the Habitat organization is funded in 2000. And it has already built more than 3700 houses for 10,100 people.

4. What are the volunteering options for those who are willing to help?

They can help the people to build a new house using better building materials and save most money. And some of the volunteers from the poor families which have been living in the Habitat houses.

Benefits of having a healthy housing:

Good for healths: living in a dirty place makes the bacteria grow more and more and it is bad for health. 

Have a better quality of life: they can use more money to promote other aspects of life.

Shorten the distant between the poor and the rich: the poor family can save a lot of money and become richer than before.

food pantry

1. Who was Dorothy Day and who did she advocate for?

Dorothy Day was a woman who has provided homes for homeless people; she advocate for homeless people.
2. What is the mission of  the food pantry you have visited today? Write 200 words.

The mission of the food pantry is to help poor family have food to eat and have clothes to wear. In the world, there is the most common thing that in a country there must have some rich people and poor people. Poor people have a very low quality of life. The worst thing is that poor people may die because of the lack of food. Therefore, for the other people having better lives, they are supported to help the poor people to survive by giving some food and some clothes. So there is the function of food pantry. People will domain their food and clothes to the food pantry. And then the poor people can come to the food pantry to pick up the free stuffs they need to help them to survive. In Chian, there are still not have many food pantry so that there are having a large number of poor people suffering the poorness. Setting enough food pantry for poor or homeless people is very necessary. And sharing the poor with our things can help them to live better. The food pantry does help poor people a lot. 

1. Is racism something you experience or have experienced in your home country?

I have never been experienced racism. Because, in China, there are not so much foreigners in most of cities so that there are very few racism things happening.

2. Do you believe the USA is a country where the instances of racism are more rare than common?

Yes, I do. As USA is the country which combined with a lot of people from different countries so that the ways of people thinkings are different. Therefore it will be more easier to the American to disagree with other from different countries and the racism will appear more often than other countries.

3. What does race/color discrimination involve?

The race or color discrimination may involve to the unfair between people. And people can get the same treatments so that it may cause the conflicts between people.

4. Does the concept of diversity include only racial differences? 

No, it does not.
5. Based on the movie Crash, why do people become violent and biased toward others? Why is their prejudice based on racial or ethnic bias?

Because people in the movie look down of other other races people once these people make some mistakes. The American will always think the other race people are bad and treat them in the same bad way. People have some advantage over others like economic ability. It will make them feel they are the best race in the world so that they may show their prejudice to other.  

Hjemkomst

1) Yes, Moorhead residents and Norwegian Vikings have something in common. Moorhead residents and Norwegian Vikings build the long boats which are well adapted for sailing the sea and navigating shallow rivers to sail the seas.

2) His dream is sailing the Hjemkomst to Norway alive; he would like to sail like Norwegian Vikings to travel around; the rationale is to spire other people all over the world tp dream and aspire to whatever their minds can conjure.

3) Yes, Aps did approach his project professionally. He asked a best known Femboring sailors called Erik Rudstam who has traveled form Norway to Iceland four times to give some advice on improving the performance.

4) Minnesotans have supported and implement the Hjemkomst project by raising the fund for them to solve the fund necessary and help the voyage dream come true.

5) The reasons of the important of the Hjemkmost project are because the travel was come up from an old man and finally come true with the old man, friends and family’s help so that it can strongly inspire the people to go after their own dream and try their best to make the dream come true. So I think the Hjemkomst is not only effecting the life of Moorhead community but also having the internationals significance.
